Locked up in the cold

As winter time approaches, the cold water follows. Most of the adult tarpon have migrated through. As some fish move out other fish move in with the weather. One of my personal favorites that are showing up in good numbers... The backcountry permit, convict fish, afro perm, it is the sheepshead. Call them what you want but I love these fish. To most non-serious anglers they're an underrated fish. To most experienced theyre a fish still on the list to catch; skiddish, tough shots, subtle eats, these fish are just plain fun to fish for. Redfish fishing is picking up with the falling water temperatures. Bait is is in abundance; pinfish, shrimp, and pilchards are happy. Snook are making their way back from the beaches and spawning grounds towards freshwater creeks in search of darker bottoms and warmer water. Younger juvenile tarpon 5-50 lbs can still be found given the right weather.
